The Teaching Well in the News

Our mission to reverse teacher turnover is powerful and imperative. The news outlets and organizations below have featured our work and our paradigm-shifting ideas to support teachers. In our first year, we've served over 500 educators in 9 schools and several conferences and had resounding positive impact in teacher, administrator and student well-being.

As she tells Uproxx Reports, 'I felt like I was short with my students. I knew if I had to do this another year that I wasn’t going to be able to make it for the long run.'”


"As an educator for 6 years in middle schools throughout Oakland, I know the joy of being a public school teacher: The constant barrage of hugs that come every day, watching students learn how to time jokes, seeing them grow as learners and thinkers.

But I left. During my early years as a teacher I set a pace for myself that I could no longer keep up with. I forgot, over time, that my health and wellness mattered. I spent hours, day in and out, doing what was “best” for kids and slowly it began to erode my personal balance.

"I believe at my core (and in my work with The Teaching Well) that when we begin to honor the expertise and wisdom of teachers and use their voices and experiences to inform policy, they will not only re-engage with the school sites where they work (and stay longer, instead of burning out within five years), but they will begin to see themselves as empowered individuals who have something to say about education.


We're thrilled to have been selected to present our framework for Teacher Wellness and School Community Thriving at the 2017 Bridging Hearts and Minds of Youth Conference in San Diego, February 10-12.

We'll be presenting as a post-conference workshop (so that we can work interactively with educators, instead of just talking at them!) from 2-5pm on February 12. Join us to learn more about how to make your health and well-being a priority in the classroom.

Adults are well-equipped with stress resilience tools, able to honestly communicate their boundaries so they don’t burn out, and are well-fed and well-rested. When triggered by stressful situations at school, they know how to pause, breathe, step out of their reactive brains and into appropriate conscious responses.
