Cultivating healthy educators and thriving schools

The Teaching Well is a non-profit wellness organization founded on Ohlone land in Oakland, CA.

Sustaining our teachers is critical to student achievement, attendance, and wellbeing. Our work addresses burnout, retention, and the staffing crisis. We strengthen staff culture in schools through retention-focused services, such as coaching, personal and professional development, as well as trauma-informed mental health supports.

We also consult with districts, nonprofits and corporate teams to enhance resilience strategies and communication within teams, especially across identity differences.

When you are in your fatigue zone you are more likely to react from your implicit bias and primary trauma responses, and less likely to respond in ways that align with your values.

Mission & Pedagogy to Create Change

Our mission is to stabilize schools by equipping educators with the resiliency and socio-emotional skills they need to communicate and collaborate more effectively.

Paradigm Shifting: Vision for a Healthy Educational Field

Our vision is to have a thriving educator workforce that is healthy, connected, and ultimately able to stay in roles that bring about liberatory change in their communities. In turn, our students grow in their love of learning, achieve better outcomes, and live into their full potential.

By working at the nexus of adult SEL, DEIJ, and healing, we support educators to bring their full and healing selves to their work. Wellness, rest, and joy are our birthrights. TTW is working to ensure culturally responsive supports are inclusive, affordable, and integrated within all community spaces, including schools.

“I am taking away the huge importance of self-care and how it affects our mood, implicit biases, physical wellness…. Everything. If we cannot take care of ourselves, how can we take care of our students?”
